Perplexity AI Visibility Monitoring

GeoScript monitors how Perplexity responds to business queries and — uniquely — captures the structured citations Perplexity natively reports, giving you the highest-signal citation intelligence of any monitored engine.

How GeoScript observes this engine

  • GeoScript uses the Perplexity Agent API (api.perplexity.ai/v1/responses) — the current production API as of September 2026 after Perplexity deprecated its Sonar /chat/completions endpoint.
  • Each call reaches the live Perplexity endpoint with real credentials. GeoScript passes a prompt and collects the full structured response including the answer and source list.
  • The raw HTTP response body is preserved before parsing. Perplexity's Agent API returns a typed output array containing both a search_results item (sources) and a message item (answer text).
  • GeoScript extracts citations from the native search_results output items first, then from message-level annotation objects. This gives structured, provider-ordered citation data.
  • Provider-reported dollar cost is recorded directly from usage.cost.total_cost — Perplexity is the only monitored engine that returns authoritative cost in its response.
  • Retries occur only on server-directed 429 or 5xx responses. The adapter also checks the Agent API's own status field — only 'completed' is treated as a successful observation.

Signals available

  • Business mention detection — whether your business appears in Perplexity's answer.
  • Recommendation rate — proportion of prompts where your business is mentioned or recommended.
  • Native citations — Perplexity's structured source list (provider-ordered URLs and titles), preserved exactly as returned. This is the highest-fidelity citation signal available across all monitored engines.
  • Citation gap analysis — when your business appears in the answer but is absent from the cited sources, or vice versa.
  • Response text — the verbatim answer returned by Perplexity per observation.
  • Historical tracking — results accumulate to show citation and mention patterns over time.
  • Observation metadata — prompt, engine, model, latency, provider-reported cost, and timestamp.

What GeoScript does not measure

Explicit limitations (§127)

  • GeoScript cannot observe how users interact with Perplexity's interface after a response is returned — no click data, dwell time, or follow-up behavior.
  • GeoScript does not have access to Perplexity's internal ranking signals, web index, or model parameters.
  • GeoScript observes API responses — not user-session replays. Perplexity's live product may show different UI elements, ads, or related questions that the API does not expose.
  • Observation results reflect a point in time. GeoScript cannot predict or guarantee future responses or citation inclusion.
  • GeoScript does not measure Perplexity's advertising or sponsored placement surfaces.
