Business Truth

The verified, structured, machine-readable representation of what a business actually is, does, serves, and where — used as the factual substrate for AI optimization.

Definition

Business Truth is GeoScript's concept for the canonical, verified set of facts about a business: its legal name, operating name, physical locations, service areas, specific products or services offered, the types of customers it serves, hours of operation, credentials, and other structured facts that distinguish it from every other business. Business Truth is not marketing copy — it is the factual substrate that AI engines need to accurately understand, represent, and recommend a business.

Within GeoScript, Business Truth is assembled from the Content Genome (what the site actually says), validated against observable signals, and used as the reference point for all optimization recommendations. If a business's published content contradicts or obscures its Business Truth, AI engines will either misrepresent it or ignore it.

Why it matters

AI engines don't know a business by its ad spend or reputation — they know it by what they can read and reason over. If a plumbing company serves three specific cities but its website only says 'serving the greater metro area,' AI engines cannot accurately cite it for location-specific queries. Business Truth makes the implicit explicit: every fact an AI engine needs to confidently recommend the business is present, clear, and consistent.

Example

A client's website says 'premier auto body shop serving the region.' The Business Truth is more specific: 'Thompson's Auto Body, collision repair and paintless dent removal, 2201 Oak Ave, Evanston IL 60201, serving Evanston, Skokie, and Wilmette.' Aligning the website's content with Business Truth — adding the specific location, service area, and explicit services — is the first and most foundational step in AI optimization.

How it differs from related terms

Business Truth is the factual content layer — what is true about the business. The Content Genome is GeoScript's extraction process that discovers what the website currently says. Optimization recommendations are the actions that close the gap between what the website says and what the Business Truth requires. AEO/GEO are the practices that make Business Truth legible to AI engines.
